Interview with Mr. Denis Chen, General Manager of Foshan Yanghang Int'l Freight Co.Ltd

2010-12-20

JCtrans: Hello, Mr. Chen. After these years development, Yanghang Int'l Freight Co.Ltd has become a synthetically logistics enterprise owning outstanding characteristic in the south area of China. Would you please talk about why you choose logistics as your career?

Mr. Chen: Firstly, the employment prospect of logistics is optimistic. After entering the 90's, the logistics develops fast, and gradually people become more and more interest in it. In the perspective of economics, logistics is considered as "the third profit source ". It can excavate the potential wealth. So, as other profit source excavation has dried up, logistics' status is greatly ascended. Modern logistics, after integrating the goods, trade, information, capital and personnel flow, speeds up the realization of the use value of commodity, thus it has become one of the highlights of our country's economy. While in China's logistics industry, there is still no one can be called real modern logistics enterprise. Talent in this area is also in short supply, especially the advanced logistics talents are in great shortage!

Secondly, Logistics is an integrated subject, which mainly needs four sorts of Knowledge--computer, management, automatic control and machinery. And it also involves economics, production technology, and other knowledge which covering a wide range. I think this will push me to absorb knowledge of many aspects, and widen my horizon. I like logistics because it is constantly changing and full of challenge. It needs a wide range of knowledge and keen insight. Attention to detail is particularly important in logistics. There is no trivial matter in logistics. Any tiny neglect can cause great damage in this chain.

JCtrans: Any enterprise who wants to get good development must go through many trials and tribulations. I think Yanghang Int'l Freight Co. Ltd is with no exception. Would you please talk about how your company overcomes difficulties to pursuit steady development?

Mr. Chen: A person's power is limited, so I never think that employees are employees only. The reason why our company is able to resist the financial turmoil, why we can get over the hardship of layoffs and pay cuts is the efforts of everyone. I feel lucky that I have a group of good partners that other big companies may not have. I never think they are just my subordinates and employees. We are a group and are all in the same ship. We progress together and develop together. We make concerted efforts all the time.

JCtrans: The existence and development of the enterprise are inseparable from the unity of all the staff and their persevering hard work. Would you please talk about the working atmosphere in your company?

Mr. Chen: I am very glad to work with my employees. We are just like good friends. As the saying goes, "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy." We combine work with pleasure well. So the atmosphere is active and playful.

JCtrans: We all know logistic people should bear huge pressure, would you please talk about how could you balance your life and your work?

Mr. Chen: Mr. Chen: The first thing to point out is that work isn't separate from life - it's a part of it. To some people, work is not a part of life. But to me, work makes life full of passion. Either way, it's a part of my life, good or bad.

Of course, all of us want to know how to balance work with the rest of life. Yet, if you really love the job, it is no need to shorten working hours and then watch TV at home instead. And this is very important.

JCtrans: With the policy opened gradually in China, the logistics business will meet the chance and challenge at the same time. Would you please talk about the current situation of logistic industry?

Mr. Chen: The global financial crisis intensifies logistics enterprise polarization. Logistics market is facing new "reshuffle". There are many disadvantages in nowadays logistics development -- relatively simple business structure, lacking logistics enterprises with professional characteristics, weak anti-risk ability, declining profitability dually influenced by demand and cost and the withdrawal from the market in some small and medium-sized enterprise.

In the fierce market competition, logistics resource and market concentrate further to specialization and socialization, and modernization, form the integrated competitive situation in product, service, brand, talents, capital and others, and thus speed the market reshuffle.

Along with the implementation of various policies in order to expand domestic demand in our country, such logistics business as city distribution, interim storage and express related to people's living consumption are stable and have great development potentials.
