Interview with Mr. John, Manager of APEX Shipping and Commercial Company

JCtrans: Hello, John. Firstly, will you please make a brief introduction of Apex?

Mr. John: APEX Shipping and Commercial Company (ASCO), is a limited liability company which is registered under the Corporate Laws of the Republic of Ghana. Apex is a Shipping and Logistics organization with a wide range of expertise in Shipping services, Cargo handling, Transportation, Customs Brokerage, Import and Export by Sea and Air, Transit, Warehousing and Ex-Warehousing, Freezone and Consultancy services. Apex was established in 1997 with operational licenses from Ghana Shippers Council, Ghana Port and Harbors Authority, Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) and Ghana Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS).

In Ghana, Apex has offices in the Ports of Tema and Takoradi, Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and at Aflao. Within the West African sub-region, Apex has affiliates in Nigeria (Lagos) and Togo. Internationally, Apex has links with Jonen Freight of South Africa, Probaggage Services also in South Africa and Golden Freight of Dubai. Apex has joined the JCTRANS Network of International Freight Forwarders to have more International Partners to arrange shipments on FOB, CIF, DDP, DDU, Ex-works and other arrangements as per Shipper or Consignee demand.

JCtrans: Will you please talk about Apex's Enterprise Characteristics?

Mr. John: Apex offers professional advice to corporate importers and exporters on all Ghana Customs regimes and requirement for various cargo/shipments.

Apex has a wide range of Services which Corporate Companies can tap for the growth of their business and supply chain needs Shipping services, Cargo handling, Transportation, Customs Brokerage, Import and Export by Sea and Air , Transit, Warehousing and Ex-Warehousing, Freezone and Consultancy services.

We have experienced and highly motivated staffs who are innovative and ready to provide cost saving and efficient solutions to your shipment needs.

Apex has Global Networking partners to move your cargo globally to the final destination as desired by the customer.

We assist Importers and Exporters in Ghana to register with the Government Agencies involving the import and export trade in Ghana.

JCtrans: We know Apex is a Shipping and Logistics organization with a wide range of expertise in Shipping services, Cargo handling. Then would you please talk about the advantageous services of Apex?

Mr. John:

- Global Shippers need an International Freight Forwarder who can coordinate shipment of cargo from overseas into Ghana and globally, through our global partnership with other professional Freight Forwarders we can offer such services. Our West African trade coverage includes Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Monrovia and Burkina Faso.

- Apex services cover warehousing and ex-warehousing for manufacturing companies, automobile companies and many others, which not all forwarders in Ghana can provide. In effect Apex goes a step further and does not only clear goods from port into a warehouse. We also provide a complete Freezone clearance processing.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about the current situation of logistic industry in Ghana?

Mr. John: Ghana is a country which can be located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea and trade in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region. Ghana currently provides logistics for Transit of Cargo to the Landlocked Countries such as Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Ivory Coast to mention a few.

Oil and Gas discovery in commercial quantities in Ghana has improved the following logistics network.

Road Network, Increased Aviation Operators, Increased Rail Network .i.e linking Tema port to the Inland Port construction in Kumasi. West African Max Vessel (WAFMAX), the largest shipping vessel to chart West African waters, has also been hosted by Tema port of Ghana on 02/07/2011. At 250 meters long and 13.5 meters draft and can carry 4500 containers providing customers in West Africa direct access to ports inAsia, the WAFMAX is equipped with its own cranes for lifting and loading containers to augment the infrastructure at some West African ports. In Summary there have been improvements in the current situation of logistic industry in Ghana with wider opportunities for foreign investment in the country.

JCtrans: Finally, will you please talk about the strategic planning of Apex?

Mr. John:

- Own trucks to haul containers

- Own warehouses

- Prospect for Agency in Shipping and Air Operators.
