THE new 158-acre container terminal at the Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) that will be operated by MOL's TraPac, Inc. is scheduled to open on January 12.
The TraPac terminal at Jaxport will have an annual box handling capacity of 800,000 TEU and be equipped with ultramodern postpanamax container handling systems, a statement issued on behalf of MOL said.
The Jaxport container port offers shipping and intermodal combinations in the South Atlantic. With access to highways I-10, I-75 and I-95, Jaxport's intermodal trucking capabilities will allow shippers to reach more than 60 per cent of the US population within 24 hours. Jaxport also offers direct access to Class I Railroads, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern, as well as to regional carrier, Florida East Coast Railroad.
Nearly 50 major distribution centres are located in the surrounding area of Jaxport, which has 17,000 acres available for building and expansion capacity.
Founded in 1987 by parent company MOL, TraPac, Inc. is a container terminal operator and stevedore that already operates terminals at the US west coast ports of Los Angeles and Oakland.
