The British Airline Pilots' Association, or BALPA, reached a draft pay and productivity package with British Airways that would see pilots deliver a permanent annual saving program of US$42.2 million from Oct. 1 for the U.K carrier.
BALPA, the union representing pilots, is recommending proposals that include pay cuts and longer working hours, and in return, pilots would be awarded shares in the airline.
The deal isn't a home run because members still need to accept it, but BALPA said it is hopeful "for a strong 'Yes' vote."
The package also allows for up to 78 voluntary pilot redundancies due to changes in productivity, but the union insisted that no redundancies would be compulsory.
BALPA is recommending that BA pilots each take a wage cut of 2.61 percent in their basic pay beginning in October. In addition, they are asking pilots to accept a 20 percent reduction in flying-time allowances. |
