Air Europa pilots have called a strike from May 5 to 9 and could walk out again in June to protest against the airline's plan to launch a low-cost airline, they said on Tuesday.
"Talks have broken down but we appeal to the company to reflect on things," Luis Crespi, a spokesman for the pilots told a news conference.
The pilots worry that the launch of a second, low-cost airline will endanger jobs at Air Europa, one of Iberia's main rivals on short-haul routes from Spain.
Air Europa, owned by unlisted Globalia, has 527 pilots and 40 planes.
Iberia owns 20 percent of low-cost airline Clickair, which is in merger talks with Vueling as they try to beat off competition from foreign rivals such as easyJet and Ryanair
