Evergreen has held a naming ceremony for the Ever Safety, the ninth in a series of ten 7,024-TEU containerships built at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Kobe shipyard.
The newbuild is due for delivery in October, when she is scheduled to join Evergreen Line's transpacific service. The eight other vessels in the series that have already been deployed are being transferred to Evergreen Line's new China Europe Shuttle (CES) service that links Asia and North Europe.
A statement said the Evergreen Group is approaching the end of a shipbuilding programme comprising 18 large postpanamax containerships. Eight 8,073-TEU are already in service.
The ships are designed to minimise impact on the environment both in normal operation and in the event of an accident. Evergreen Line said it has been inundated with enquiries for more information on these ships, and has therefore set up a special section on its website to provide details.
