Chang Yung-Fa, founder and chairman of the Evergreen Group, has become the first Taiwanese recipient of Malaysia's second most senior federal award, the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota, in recognition of his contribution to economic co-operation between the two countries.
The award, which carries the title "Tan Sri", was conferred in the Balairong Seri hall of Kuala Lumpur's Istana Negara royal palace by His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong XIII.
Dr Chang was previously honoured with Malaysia's Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) award in 2000, giving him the title of "Datuk" in recognition of his commitment to the country's economy.
Dr Chang was recently appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth in acknowledgment of his services to shipping and British economic interests. He is also the recipient of the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from Lloyd's List.
