Pirates become more adventurous

Somali pirates are attacking vessels further from their own coast, while the number of hijackings increased by almost 15% year-on-year during the first nine months of 2010.

According to statistics published by the International Chamber of Commerce International Maritime Bureau (IMB), Somali pirates were responsible for 44% of the 289 global piracy incidents over the first nine months, carrying out 35 ship hijackings
