Australia's competition watchdog has commenced legal proceedings against Thai Airways International for alleged price fixing of air freight, the 11th airline to be prosecuted under its long running investigation.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it will allege Thai Airways conspired with other airlines to fix the price of fuel surcharges and security surcharges applied to air cargo between 2001 and 2006.
The ACCC's investigations has so far resulted in the court ordering six airlines, led by Qantas Airways, to pay a total of US$38 million in penalties, while proceedings in the Federal Court continue against Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates Airline and Garuda.
