Global Freight Rate Round-up
POSTED: 1:56 p.m. EDT, August 13,2007

With the development of global economy, especially Asian new economic body, there is a great demand on industrial materials all over the world. BDI grows all along the way from 4400 beginning this year to 6278 of June, averages at 5772 ps, up by 113%. On May 15th, the number climbed to the highest point at 6688, 480 points higher than the top in 2004. BCI, BPI daily chartering price arrived at US$1150, 000 and US$ 510, 000 respectively

1. Demand on large quantities of goods. For instance, from January to May, crude steel output is 540 million, up by 9.1%.

2. Shipping capacity lagged behind demand. Statistics shows bulk carrier accounts for 382 million. Rate of increase is lower than that of 2006.

3. Trading structure changes influence shipping, mainly the route is prolonged. Because India has reduced export of iron ore, China has to import it from Australia and Brazil. China has reduced export of coal; Korea has to import it from Australia.

4. Some temporary negative factor also influenced the rate.
