Announcement No.16, 2006 of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People¡¯s Republic of China, on Suspending the Import of Edible Pork Products from Belgium, Netherlands and Germany

With the authentication of Food Safety Authority in Belgium, since some of pork and poultry meat products have been found with excessive carcinogenic dioxin because of contamination during the production process of feedstuff, the EU has issued caution notification. Besides, some of the pork products made in Netherlands and Germany have been found with similar problems.
In order to safeguard the public health and sanitation security and in accordance with Food Hygiene Law of the People''s Republic of China and related regulations, notification goes as follows:

1. Import of edible pork products from Belgium, Netherlands and Germany shall be suspended as from today.
2. Import prohibition of animal derived feedstuff from EU shall be continued. Inspection, quarantine and supervision on plant derived feedstuff and feedstuff additive from Belgium, Netherlands and Germany shall be reinforced. Inspection on dioxin shall be conducted when necessary.
3. Import of edible pork products from Belgium, Netherlands and Germany, which is of effect shipment before January 24, 2006, shall go through inspection on dioxin before Entry procedure.
