Cote d'Ivoire's former rebel group New Forces (FN) re-established control over its stronghold of Bouake following an attack on the plane carrying their leader and now Cote d'Ivoire's Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, security sources told the AFP.
"No firing has been reported for the last one hour or so. The FN has re-established control over the area," western and local security sources were quoted as saying by the AFP.
"The incident seems like an isolated occurrence. But, the situation could potentially escalate," according to the sources. Roads in Bouake remained closed following the attack on the prime minister.
Meanwhile, Soro came out of the attack "unharmed and is secure," a statement read on the national television said without elaborating further on the whereabouts of the prime minister.
At least four people were killed during the attack, according to the latest official figures.
"About three rockets were fired at the plane carrying the prime minister, a Fokker 100, belonging to Cote d'Ivoire's president, in an attack that left four people dead," Diarra Sinao, a local journalist who was traveling in the plane, told the AFP over the phone.
