Indian Army chief to visit UK, France
POSTED: 10:03 a.m. EDT, June 22,2007
The Indian Army Chief General J.J. Singh will visit France and the United Kingdom (UK) from June 24 to July 2, Indian Defense Ministry said here Thursday.

This visit comes at a time when India's defence cooperation with the two nations is at an all-time high, the ministry said.

India's joint activities with France and the UK include visits, training exchanges, equipment procurement and participation in seminars and conferences.

"The visit by Gen J.J. Singh will add the necessary impetus to the defense relationship and broad-base it further into a mutually beneficial partnership," the ministry said.

During his visit, Gen Singh will interact with military and civilian defence personnel in the two nations.

The General is likely to visit important joint service bases. He will pay homage at Neuve Chappell in France, a memorial in the memory of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during world wars.

He has also been invited to address an elite audience at International Institute of Strategic Studies in London on "Indian Armed Forces: Present and Future Perspective".
