Another batch of 80 45-foot, pallet-wide high-cube containers has arrived by barge at the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminal in the Netherlands’ Port of Rotterdam for Samskip Multimodal.
The logistics company ordered 550 of the containers from China and received 440 of them in the second quarter. The last ones are slated for delivery in the third quarter of the year.
The containers, which have a new design, offer one extra cubic meter (about 35 cubic feet) of internal capacity. Their tare weight has also been reduced from 4.230 kilograms (about 9.326 pounds) to 9.259 pounds, and their floor support has been enhanced. In addition, the containers’ higher tensile steel construction has made them more rigid.
These containers will replace Samskip Multimodal’s old Geest containers by the end of 2014.
