Shenzhen surpasses Hong Kong in container throughput

Shenzhen has surpassed the Port of Hong Kong port in container volume in the first half of this year with 11.06 million TEU, with year-on-year growth of 2.52 per cent while Hong Kong port handled 10.71 million TEU in the same period, according to the Shipping Gazette.
The Shenzhen Port Authority's Dong Zeyan, an official at said international transit container volume at the port has increased 20 per cent year on year to 1.42 million TEU in the first half, reported Sino Ship News, based in both Dalian and Singapore.
The authority also predicted that in the second half of this year the port will achieve three to four per cent growth, reported SinoScip news, he said.
In a recent report released by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the academy predicts Shenzhen port will achieve container throughput of 23.3 million to 23.5 million, and become the third largest container port in the world, following Shanghai and Singapore.
