Cosco Announces March, April Rate Increases

Cosco Container Lines will increase rates for all refrigerated shipments in its trade from the Far East to the Red Sea and Persian Gulf by $500 per unit, effective March 15.

The shipping company will also hike rates for all shipments in its trade from the Far East to South Africa, starting April 1. The increase will be $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container.

Additionally, Cosco has implemented an emergency bunker surcharge for all shipments from mainland China to Taiwan, which went into effect on March 1. The surcharge is $340 per 20-foot-equivalent unit and $680 per 40-foot-equivalent unit for Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao and Lianyungang, and $190 per TEU and $380 per FEU for Shanghai, Ningbo and Yangtze River area.

Cosco will implement a fuel adjustment factor in Far East to Red Sea, Gulf and Indian subcontinent trade, effective from April 1-30. From the Far East, excluding Japan, to the Persian Gulf and Indian subcontinent, the factor will be $452 per TEU and $904 per FEU. From Japan to the Persian Gulf and Indian subcontinent, the factor will be $342 per TEU and $684 per FEU, and from the Far East, including Japan, to the Red Sea, the factor will be $605 per TEU and $1,210 per FEU.

The ocean carrier will also implement a terminal handling charge for all shipments to and from South Africa, starting April 1. The charge will be $1,229 per TEU and $1,816 per FEU for general cargo, and $1,715 per TEU and $2,549 per FEU for dangerous cargo.
