One of Europe's major feeder and short-sea operators, Unifeeder A/S, will in future consolidate its short-sea transport operations through the EUROGATE terminal in Waltershof. The exclusive partnership marks a further step in Unifeeder's strategy to offer its final customers integrated and reliable multimodal transport solutions, and to optimise these on an ongoing basis. Many of Unifeeder's customers, including automotive manufacturers and suppliers, depend on seamless transport and supply chains to support their manufacturing processes. To guarantee this, Unifeeder works closely with competent partners like EUROGATE. One of the goals of this partnership is to reinforce the link between short-sea transport operations at the Port of Hamburg and rail freight handling, allowing Unifeeder to respond more quickly and flexibly to customer demands. The advantages of the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg location were one of the main reasons for the decision: the EUROKOMBI intermodal rail station is located directly adjacent to the container terminal and guarantees short distances between ship and rail transport. Unifeeder is also impressed by the flexibility and quality of EUROGATE's handling competence.
"This is the start of what we hope will be a long-term partnership," says Timm Niebergall, managing director of Unifeeder Germany. "With as many as 20 departures a week, Hamburg is our biggest hub in northern Europe, with the highest departure frequency. Via Hamburg we forward goods destined for the UK, Scandinavia, Finland, Russia and Poland, including the Baltic States, for our customers from industry and the freight forwarding sector. One focus is on transports for the chemical and automotive industries. In this segment we regularly tranship higher volumes destined for the Russian market. Should our concept prove successful, we intend to extend the partnership with EUROGATE to other locations. Bremerhaven is interesting as a gateway for transports from the northern Ruhr and Emsland region. Naturally there is also the option to integrate Wilhelmshaven into our service network. In the next few years we are looking to achieve growth together with EUROGATE as a short-sea hub in Hamburg-and possibly also elsewhere."
"We are delighted that Unifeeder's decision went in favour of EUROGATE," says Emanuel Schiffer, Chairman of the EUROGATE Group Management Board. "In Unifeeder we have a customer that is both satisfied with and characterises the service we offer. The fact that EUROGATE is present at many locations across Europe makes us a strong partner. Unifeeder can draw on our diverse range of services, not only for waterside handling. With EUROGATE Intermodal, our seaport hinterland rail transport provider, we are able to offer Unifeeder competent support with realising multimodal transport solutions."
