United Arab Shipping Company takes delivery of 6,919-TEU Al Manamah

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), owned by Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE, took delivery of its new 6,919-TEU ship at a recent naming ceremony at Ulsan, South Korea.

The new ship, the Al Manamah, is the fifth A7 ship built by Hyundai Heavy Industries for UASC, part of an order for eight ships. The new ships can steam at 25.5 knots and carry 459 FEU of reefer boxes and are also equipped to transport hazardous cargo.

Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa, chairman of the General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP) and a UASC director thanked the management and the employees of Hyundai for completing delivery ahead of time.

"It is heartening that the ships already delivered by Hyundai are performing extremely well in the UASC's service network and that the new ship will further add to the capacity of the company in meeting the increasing demand for cost-effective and efficient shipping regionally and internationally," he said.

The ceremony was also attended UASC director Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa, GOP deputy chairman Eid Abdulla Yousif, GOP director general Hassan Ali Al Majed and UASC Bahrain general manager Abdul EIlah Al Arabi.
