UASC carries record exports from Port Sultan Qaboos

2008-3-30

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has recently carried a record volume of container exports from Port Sultan Qaboos.

The 1,561-TEU Barzan was loaded with more than 500 TEU of local export cargo from Oman for discharge in Shanghai, resulting in the largest export volume of full containers from Port Sultan Qaboos for one vessel call, reports the Khaleej Times.

The ship is one of five deployed by United Arab Shipping Company on its Arabian Gulf Express extended main line route. This service links Oman to the Far East and China and calls at Port Sultan Qaboos twice a week on both the east and west-bound legs of the voyage.

This development comes as Port Services Corporation launched a marketing campaign to attract big shipping lines in cooperation with local agents to Port Sultan Qaboos.

Port Services Corporation's operations, harbour and marine departments coordinated the berthing and loading operations in cooperation with United Arab Shipping Company's local shipping agent Bhacker Haji Abdullatif, the report added.
