COSCO Pacific terminals throughput up 20 percent for year

Throughput at the terminals of COSCO Pacific, the terminal operating arm of COSCO Group, rose more than 27 percent in November from the same month in 2006.

The operator handled 3.6 million TEUs at its 19 terminals (16 of which are in China), up from 2.9 million in November 2006.

Year-to-date, COSCO has handled 35.9 million TEUs, a 20 percent increase from the 29.8 million TEUs it handled in the first 11 months of 2006.

The company's busiest operation, Yantian International Container Terminal in the Port of Shenzhen, saw throughput rise more than 11 percent to 817,000 TEUs in November. The second-biggest terminal, Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal Co., saw throughput rise nearly 14 percent to 702,900 TEUs for the month. The Qingdao terminal, for the year, has grown nearly 22 percent to handle 7.5 million TEUs through November.
