Latin America-North Europe container shipping rates set to rise

Container shipping lines belonging to the Latin America-Europe trade ESPMC-WITASS conference have announced northbound tariff rate increases for 2008.

The intended hikes, all denominated in US dollars, relate to the sectors of that trade from the west coast of South America (WCSA) to North Europe and the Caribbean/east coast Central America (ECCA) to North Europe:

The WCSA-North Europe increases will be:

Chile and Peru

January 1, 2008

$350 per 20-foot container

$450 per 40-foot container

Ecuador

January 1, 2008

$150 per 20-foot container

$250 per 40-foot container

Peak season surcharge (Chile only)

March 1 to June 30, 2008

$200 per 20-foot container

$300 per 40-foot container

The Caribbean/ECCA to North Europe increases will be:

Dry cargo

January 15, 2008

$75 per TEU

April 1, 2008

$75 per TEU

Reefer cargo

January 15, 2008

$150 per TEU

Peak season surcharge

February 15, 2008 until June 30, 2008

$175 per TEU (dry and reefer cargo)

The geographical scope of the conference is between ports in the Hamburg to Le Havre range, Scandinavian countries, Baltic Sea, Poland, Atlantic Spain, Portugal and UK/Eire and Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia via Peru/Chile, Aruba, Belize, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela.
