TSA releases TWIC rollout schedule

2007-11-1

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration released its latest schedule for enrolling workers and mariners to receive the Transportation Worker Identification Credential.

The enrollment process will begin at 38 ports in stages between mid-November and the end of the year. The rest of the nation's ports will begin card application and issuance in 2008.

The TWIC program began last month in Wilmington, Del., and Nov. 1 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The TWIC card is a biometric and photo identification tool for controlling access to secure areas of a port. Applicants must undergo a background check and submit their fingerprints.
