DNV Denmark expanding together with the Danish maritime industry

2007-10-31

The Danish maritime industry is currently facing major expansion. As a class society, DNV has taken this growth into account by further expanding and extending its services for this industry.

DNV not only acts as an independent class provider and competence centre for technical support, it also provides services to the whole industry line and to ensure qualified seafarers on board the vessels.

"Like most of the maritime world, Denmark is struggling to ensure expertise and experience at all levels. So it is important to ensure that available expertise is used to the best advantage, and that new people are trained and prepared for the forthcoming challenges," says Henrik Bach, country manager DNV Maritime, Denmark.

Henrik Bach heads the DNV troops in four major cities in Denmark "Aalborg, Copenhagen, Esbjerg and Fredericia". DNV's staff numbers have grown in line with the maritime industry. Today, it counts more than 40 dedicated maritime experts. In 2007, new approval support has been added to the services offered from Denmark.

Henrik Bach continues: "Technology developments and new technology solutions on board vessels are continuously increasing the technical focus when building as well as maintaining the vessels. Through close cooperation between yards, both in Denmark and wherever ships are being built, shipowners and DNV as a class society, we are proud to state that the Danish-controlled fleet is of high quality."

"Together with one of the largest shipowners, we are now using the same philosophy and approach to classify competence and training. This to ensure high quality at the training centres and, in the end, well qualified seafarers."

As the very first training centre in the world, Maersk Training Centre in Svenborg achieved the DNV SeaSkill award for excellent performance earlier this year.

DNV has previously noted that some 50% of training providers are underperforming. DNV has therefore developed DNV SeaSkill - a 4-step certification system for the professional verification of training and benchmarking of performance. The target is to ensure a uniform quality of training in the maritime industry.
