A NEW sea-rail intermodal container train service from Xiamen Port to Jiangxi's Ganzhou and Nanchan has started operation, Xinhua reported.
The new service, launched by Xiamen Port (Group) Co. Ltd will provide twice-weekly service on Tuesdays and Fridays. Each train, with 40 railcars, can carry 80 TEU, the report said.
The new service will help to meet Xiamen Port's demand through rapid and efficient intermodal transportation service and it only takes 20 and 30 hours respectively from Xiamen Port to Ganzhou and to Nanchang, the report said.
Xiamen Port Group started the trial operation on the route in 2005 and cargo transportation volume has been growing rapidly since.
Major cargo on the trains include cars, building materials, clothes, shoes, caps, food and minerals.
