Sydney Airport's new-look Terminal 2 opens
POSTED: 9:03 a.m. EDT, April 13,2007

Sydney Airport's newly redeveloped Terminal 2 (T2) officially opened this month. The refurbishment works cost airport authorities A$20 million (US$16.48 million).

T2 is a domestic terminal used by airlines such as Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Rex, QantasLink and Aeropelican.

Sydney Airport CEO Russell Balding said that T2 is now the busiest and most popular terminal out of the airport's three terminals, in a statement issued by the Sydney Airport Corporation.

"The feedback we are getting on the new look terminal is extremely positive. A recent survey of passengers has found that 83 per cent were satisfied with the range of food and beverage outlets, an increase of 18 percentage points on last year while 89 per cent were satisfied with the overall appearance and cleanliness of T2, up nine percentage points on last year," he said.

Aside from a marked increase in the number of retail and food outlets, the upgrade also includes the re-orientation and expansion of security screening, improvements to lighting, new floor surfaces and toilets and improved signage to assist passenger movement through the terminal.

The redevelopment work had to be carried out in six stages to minimise disruption and inconvenience to airport users, an important consideration given that more than 10 million passengers pass through T2 each year.
