Truck-air intermodal service bolsters Yantai's cargo forwarding capacity
POSTED: 10:27 a.m. EDT, February 5,2007

More than half of Yantai's transit cargo volume has been handled by a truck-air intermodal service set up between Yantai and Beijing, according to Yantai customs.

Since the launch of the Yantai-Beijing truck-air intermodal service in April last year, 134 trucks carrying 259 tons of air cargo have been transporting cargo between the two airports in Beijing and Yantai, said a Logistics Week report.

With demand for air cargo soaring in recent years, most of Yantai's airfreight destined for overseas markets had to be transported via Beijing Capital Airport as Yantai Airport lacks international airfreight forwarding services.

The truck-air intermodal service between the two cities was jointly launched by Yantai customs, Yantai International Airport Group and Air China to meet growing demand for transport owing to insufficient capacity provided by the Beijing-Yantai air service, the report added.
