Port of Le Havre Posts Results for 2006
POSTED: 4:56 p.m. EDT, January 26,2007

With an overall traffic of about 75 mn tons handled in 2006, the port of Le Havre saw its trade remain at about the same level as that of the year 2005. With a +1.6 % rise at 47.6 mn tons, liquid bulks accounted for 64% of all port tonnage in 2006.

The main two flows of traffic in this category are crude oil, which rose by 0.4% to 34.3 mn tons and refined products, whose growth was particularly favourable (+5% to 11.9 mn tons).

With 3.7 mn tons handled in 2006, dry bulks account for 6% of the yearly tonnage handled through Le Havre. Nearly half this tonnage is made up of coal (1.8 mn tons) whose imports reduced by almost 38% in 2006 owing to upgrading works on one part of the thermal power station.

Trades of rock-fills and other materials also decreased owing to the end of Port 2000 construction work (1.3 mn tons that is - 11.6 %). On the contrary, a high rise in cement by 19.7 % to 0.5 mn tons should be noted.
