14 percent rise in Karachi Port cargo handling
POSTED: 5:17 p.m. EDT, October 23,2007

Despite 33 percent non-functional berths, cargo handling at Karachi Port during July-September marked a 14 percent increase.

This is because of extensive import of crude oil and export of commodities such as cement, clinker, ethanol and molasses.

Cargo, both dry and liquid, increased to over 8.46 million tonnes during the period compared to 7.44 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Containers, both empty and loaded, at Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) and Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) touched 0.281 million TEUs, an upsurge of 9,585 TEUs, or 3.52 percent.
