Danaos confirmed today that it has inked an order for five massive containerships from South Korea¨s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
The New York-listed boxship owner has agreed to pay $830m for the post-panamax, 12,600-teu newbuildings, with a charter arranged to a major international liner company for 12 years each, reports TradeWinds.
Although Danaos did not name the charterer, TradeWinds reported 21 September that the ships will go to South Korea¨s Hyundai Merchant Marine at rates believed to be near $58,700 per day.
The purchase will be funded by a combination of cash and debt. The ships will be delivered gradually between January and August 2011.
