The 5,043-TEU Maersk Dartmouth from China has successfully docked at Ilichevsk port near Odessa, its way cleared by extra channel dredging, reported SeaNews agency of St. Petersburg.
Ukraine's Ministry of Transport said it was the first time local pilotage services and mooring were provided for such a large vessel, adding that docking required additional dredging of the approach channel.
After the successful docking, Alexander Savchenko, chief of the Delta-Lotsman pilotage service, who took the vessel in, announced that the new container service between China and the Ukraine was open.
Other same-sized Maersk vessels will start calling at the port every week. |
