Long Beach CT buys green equipment for cranes
POSTED: 9:10 a.m. EDT, January 30,2007

Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) at the Port of Long Beach has ordered six Regen units for RTG cranes from Vycon, a designer and manufacturer of high-cycling energy storage flywheel systems.

A Vycon statement said that the Regen System is the company's emissions reduction and fuel savings crane energy storage system currently being used at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.

The statement pointed out that Vycon's ability to deliver an environmental improvement message to southern California ports has helped to create a strong interest in the Regen system locally.

Long Beach Container Terminal made the decision to purchase the Regen System after touring the installation at the STS (Evergreen) terminal at the Port of Los Angeles.

The first two units are scheduled for delivery as soon as possible and the balance of four units will be delivered sometime in early 2007, the statement added.
