The South Central Railway (SCR) realised INR 24.04 crore towards penalties imposed on ticketless travellers during the first quarter of current fiscal year.
The realization is 17% higher when compared to the amount realised in the same period in 2013.
The railway staff had been conducting extensive checks against ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage during from April to June 2014. As a result of these checks, a total of 7.5 lakh cases of irregularities were detected.
These include 2.22 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 2.83 lakh cases of irregular travel (transfer of reserved tickets, adults traveling with child without ticket etc.) and 2.45 lakh cases of un-booked luggage.
