POSTED: 10:15 a.m. EDT, April 7,2007

The question paper for science under the on-going School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination has also been leaked, the Nepali National News Agency RSS reported on Friday.

According to the RSS, district coordinator of the Young Communist League, youth wing of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Deep Sikha disclosed this at a press conference on Thursday.

Stating that the "leaked" question paper was found in the capital Kathmandu, Sikha said investigation in this connection had been initiated since April 4 after information was received from special source that a gang involved in selling the question paper was operating actively.

Sikha said that on April 4, they confiscated the English question paper after receiving information about the gang being involved in selling question papers.

An earlier report said that two teachers involved in leaking out the question paper of Nepali, the subject for the SLC exams, were arrested on Thursday.

According to the Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Bhaktapur, in the capital Kathmandu Valley, the two teachers had copies of question papers of all the subjects under SLC examinations 2007 and were selling it for 10,000 Nepali rupees (142.8 U.S. dollars) per copy.

A board meeting is also taking place at the Examination Controller's Office in order to investigate into the leak out, said District Education Officer Rajya Laxmi Nakarmi.

This year, a total of 368,678 students in 1,186 exam centers across Nepal are sitting for the nine-day SLC examinations starting Wednesday morning.

SLC is regarded as important stepping stone in high school education in the country.
