Myanmar's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 13.2 percent in the fiscal year 2005-06 which ended in March, over previous fiscal year, Minister of National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha said at a press briefing in Nay Pyi Taw on Sunday.
From 2001-02 to 2005-06, Myanmar's GDP registered with an average growth rate of 12.8 percent, he said.
The volume of the country's GPD for 2005-06 reached at 4,661 billion Kyats (62.48 million US dollars), according to official sources.
The per capital income of the country's people is over 3,000 US dollars in 2005-06, up far from those of 1988-89, the minister stated.
The participation ratio of private sector in the GDP is now 93. 2 percent, a rise from over 70 percent in 1988-89.
Myanmar's foreign trade hit 5.5 billion US dollars in 2005-06 registering a new record high in 17 years since 1989 when the country began to move to the market-oriented economy.
With the total trade volume going up by over 12 percent from the previous year's 4.9 billion dollars, the export during 2005-06 reached 3.558 billion dollars, up from 2.9 billion dollars in the previous year, while the import was valued at 1.9 billion dollars.
