The new Serbian government headed by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica was sworn in Tuesday evening soon after its election by the Serbian parliament, which showed the live broadcast of the state television.

Of the 244 lawmakers present, 133 lawmakers voted for the new cabinet of Vojislav Kostunica, 106 were against; there were three abstentions, while another two did not vote.

The new government is a coalition between Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia-New Serbia, President Boris Tadic's Democratic Party and G17 Plus.

The new government includes Bozidar Djelic, deputy premier in charge of European integration and 22 ministers, including Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Interior Minister Dragan Jocic.

Parliament members who were elected as ministers have resigned from their posts of lawmakers after they were sworn in. Parties will propose other candidates to fill their seats from their election lists, whose mandates will be verified by the Serbian Electoral Commission and the parliament administrative committee, and then also by parliament.

According to the Serbian constitution, President Tadic has to call new elections if a new government is not voted in by May 15 midnight, three months after the constituting of the new parliament following the general elections on Jan. 21.
