Donald Tsang arrives in Beijing
POSTED: 10:14 a.m. EDT, April 9,2007

Newly appointed Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Donald Tsang arrived in Beijing on Sunday to receive the instrument of appointment as the third-term Chief Executive from Premier Wen Jiabao.
Tsang told the press at the airport in Beijing that it is a good opportunity to hear the state leaders' views on the Hong Kong SAR government's future core work during his stay in Beijing, according to news release from the Information Services Department of HKSAR government.

Upon arriving in the capital Sunday afternoon, Tsang said those opinions would be valuable to his governance.

In his three-day visit, Tsang will receive the instrument of appointment as the third-term Chief Executive from Premier Wen Jiabao, and meet President Hu Jintao and other state leaders on Monday.

He will also visit some Olympic game venues and new community facilities in the city.

The State Council, or the Chinese central government, endorsed Tsang's appointment as the third term Chief Executive of HKSAR on April 2. According to the appointment, Tsang's next five-year term will start on July 1, 2007.

Tsang won more than 80 percent of the ballots and beat his only contender Alan Leong in the election of the third-term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held on March 25.
