Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport has handled its largest ever freight shipment, a gas cooler weighing 141 tonnes that is to be flown to Edmonton International Airport in Canada on board a Russian Antonov An-225 freighter.
"Leipzig/Halle Airport offers ideal conditions for freight charter flights around the globe with its excellent transport connections and the opportunities provided by its 24-hour operating permit," CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG Markus Kopp said.
The new waste heater boiler is for Agrium's Redwater Fertiliser Operations. The piece of equipment will be used in the production of nitrogen fertiliser, reported Air Cargo World.
Schenker of Canada arranged for all segments of the delivery originating from Berlin, including barge, truck and final arrival at Edmonton airport, according to Shipping Gazette.
