Cargojet, a Canadian provider of overnight air cargo services, has signed an agreement with Canadian airline First Air, a unit of Makivik Corp, to increase cost efficiencies for both carriers.
Cargojet will take control of the remaining lease obligation of First Air's Boeing 767-200 extended range freighter aircraft, subject to the approval of the lessor, reported RTTNews, Buffalo area New York.
The company will also provide scheduled freighters to First Air from Ottawa and Winnipeg to Iqaluit on Baffin Island three days a week, and both parties will maintain their respective and existing end-user customer relationships.
Cargojet will be the exclusive provider of freighters from the southern points to Iqaluit, while First Air will be the primary provider of cargo lift within Nunavut, the eastern portion of the old Northwest Territories and across the north.
Said Cargojet CEO Ajay Virmani: "We are looking forward to working with First Air allowing both organisations to benefit from reduced costs, enhanced revenues and to offer a seamless, flexible and reliable air cargo service to Canadian shippers across Canada."
