2013-5-21

SriLankan Cargo, the cargo arm of SriLankan Airlines, has reported its record annual revenue of LKR12.8 billion (US$102 million), from cargo tonnage increase of 15 per cent to 101,000 tonnes.
The air freight unit is projected to achieve its revenue target for the latest fiscal year of LKR13.4 billion despite hefty competition from Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Cathay Pacific operated freighters and several airlines operating wide-body aircraft to its hub in Colombo.
The results are "a remarkable achievement", said its senior manager for cargo Ali Kamil, reported Lloyd's Loading List, adding that the cargo airline contributes 12 per cent of the group's revenue.
Express cargo and on board courier are some of the services available by the carrier including special provisions for valuable, vulnerable and dangerous goods.
