Lufthansa Cargo signs IATA e-AWB agreement

2013-5-17

Forwarders only need to sign one agreement with IATA to gain acceptance from multiple carriers for their e-AWB. All signatory airlines are then automatically included in the accord.

Lufthansa Cargo has tested the initiative in a trial run that began November.

"This industry-wide agreement is a major milestone on the road towards a completely paperless air cargo transport," Lufthansa Cargo CEO and chairman Karl Ulrich Garnadt said. "Both our customers and we as an airline will profit from easier utilization of the e-AWB, as well as from more efficient and faster processes."

Lufthansa Cargo plans to switch entirely to the use of e-AWB by 2015.
