Indonesia furniture show in China gets $100 mln orders
POSTED: 2:13 p.m. EDT, April 10,2007

The recent Indonesian furniture and handicraft show in China has obtained orders from various companies totaling 100 million U.S. dollars, a newspaper said Tuesday.

The five-day exhibition, held last month in the southern China town of Shenzhen, enjoyed a positive response from local entrepreneurs and foreign visitors.

Organized by the Indonesian Handicraft and Furniture Industries Association (Asmindo), exhibitors made deals with up to 70 potential buyers, reported leading economic daily Bisnis Indonesia.

"A single buyer has offered a contract of furniture import worth 52 million dollars. Added with offerings from other buyers, the orders may reach some 100 million dollars," Asmindo chairperson Ambar Tjahyono was quoted as saying.

"Indonesian products are very distinctive compared with those from other countries. All products are hand-made, not factory made. "

If materialized, the order from the Shenzhen show could give a significant boost to the country's handicraft and furniture export, which amounted to 1.8 billion dollars last year.
