Shanghai Pudong Airport, which is already space-constrained after 6 years of operation, will eventually complete its new US$ 2.5 billion, 480,000 square meter terminal to the east in 2007.
The new terminal is expected to bring cargo-handling capabilities to 4.5 mln tons a year by 2015, meaning the new complex would have a similar capacity to Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminal''s SuperTerminal One, the world''s biggest general air freight facility. A new freight zone is also under construction in the west of the Pudong Airport and is to be completed in 2007. It is expected to extend to 2 km in length and have the capacity to handle 3 million tons of freight.
On Tuesday, September 26, the China Supply Chain Council will organize an half-day visit of the Shanghai Pudong Airport and its various logistics facilities. The focus of the visit will be on airfreight logistics and transportation.
