Logistics Week Promises Endless Business Opportunities
POSTED: 8:59 a.m. EDT, September 22,2006
September 6, the People¡¯s Great Conference Hall.
The China Communications & Transportation Association and the Government of Guangzhou Municipality together announced to the world media present in Beijing that the 3rd China International Logistics Week will be held in Guangzhou City on November 6-10, 2006. To make it a splendid event, CCTA and the government of Guangzhou Municipality have made preparations with major support from government ministries and relevant organisations, and with complete dedication from the organising committee.

¡¡¡¡Building a More Efficient Platform for Int¡¯l Exchanges

Gan Xin, Deputy Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, said at the September 6 press conference that launching the third logistics week in Guangzhou shows on the one hand the attention and great support given to Guangzhou city by relevant State departments and the organising committee, and on the other hand reflects the more important part that¡¯s to be played by Guanghou as a central city in South China in boosting the nation¡¯s future logistics development.

¡¡¡¡Gan Xin told the reporter that the government of Guangzhou Municipality has always prioritised preparations for the logistics week. Zhang Guangning, mayor of the city, personally acted as head of the panel responsible for preparations, while the principal officers of all major municipal departments were involved in their respective assignments. To guarantee sufficient ground space for the logistics event, Pazhou International Conference & Exhibition Center has already finished a 360,000-square-metre exhibition hall, with phase-two construction still underway. Meanwhile to create a strong festival atmosphere, spread influence and better promote business and capital introduction, the municipal government is organising a ¡°Media Tour of Guangzhou¡± and a Pan-Pearl River Delta Business Fair, which will also serve as a future guide in the construction of logistics parks and the development of the logistics industry.

¡¡¡¡Supply & Demand

It is learned that the main content for the 3rd logistics week will include the 6th China International Transportation & Logistics Expos, the inaugural Global Logistics Forum, the 5th China Freight Awards Ceremony, Cross-China Logistics Tour, Summit Seminar on Chinese Logistics Development, County-Level Economic & Logistics Cooperation and Exchange Fair, Pan-Pearl River Delta Logistics Cooperation Fair, Logistics Personnel Day, Logistics Technology Day and China Logistics Tendering Fair etc. Additionally, the government of Guangzhou Municipality¡¯s ¡°Media Tour of Guangzhou¡± and ¡°New Guangzhou New Logistics Inspection¡± will also take place in the same period.

Ni Wei, Secretary of the China International Logistics Week, said the organizing committee hopes, through the success of a series of activities and friendly exchanges, to display Chinese logistics development to the world, learn and implement advanced logistics management strategies from abroad, further improve Chinese logistics management systems and future development strategies.

Ni Wei stressed, ¡°What we are most concerned about is whether buyers and sellers will clench lots of business deals during the period.¡± It is learned that more than 3,000 shipper companies will visit the logistics week and engage face-to-face with the exhibitors, perhaps the most attractive highlight of the event.

Compared with previous logistics weeks, Logistics Week 2006 will be characterised by its diverse forms of activity, authoritative viewpoints and open cooperative platform. On the basis of preceding events, the organizing committee has placed greater emphasis on guiding logistics development and upgrading global logistics cooperation.

As to whether future logistics weeks will be organised only in developed areas, Ni Wei indicated that many provinces and cities have shown their eagerness to participate in staging such activities, and cities in Northeast China as well as the Mid-West region have also provided many useful conditions. China International Logistics Weeks will always be aimed first of all to create cooperation and business opportunities for the participant enterprises and local governments, and that¡¯s why cities where logistics has undergone fast development are given priority in hosting such events.
