This agreement will enable Asian exporters and importers to receive accurate and timely intelligence on the status of each cargo container, as well as offer greater protection against potential shipment loss or container tampering.
Samsung acquired a minority stake in CommerceGuard AB, an equity venture owned by GE Security, Mitsubishi Corp, and Siemens Building Technologies.
The CommerceGuard System is based on a Container Security Device (CSD) that magnetically adheres to the inside of an international cargo container and registers any opening of the container door. Fixed and handheld readers at critical points along a supply chain report the container¡¯s status from the CSD to a CommerceGuard Data Centre.
Any unauthorised door opening is recorded as a tamper event, and alerts are routed to appropriate officials.
Authorised cargo owners, logistics providers, and government authorities can securely access the information via an Internet browser from anywhere in the world.
Cargo owners use the Data Centre to gain visibility of their shipment¡¯s location and status moving through the supply chain.
Having gained adoption at key ports within North America and Europe, as well as by major manufacturers worldwide, the CommerceGuard System is adding an important layer of security to intermodal freight shipments while being positioned to expedite the passage of cargo at high-traffic seaports.
